Dreaming of warm weather and sweet wild strawberries. Two things that make me Berry Happy indeed!
Wings & Petals
Wings & Petals watercolor on paper
On a cold, wintery morning I found my thoughts filled with flights of fancy and warm spring blooms. This is the result of that wintery day-dream.
Warm Wishes From a Snowman

Just one of the friendly faces you might meet if you happen to go a-walkin' in a winter wonderland!
And so like this frosty gentleman, we are tipping our hearts to the old year, thankful for sharing in its joys and days, and greeting the new year at the same time, hoping to be dear friends soon! For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne
Peace on Earth

This slightly dishelved angel must have had quite an adventure when her kitty decided to take an unexpected role in the Christmas Pageant! But she's still ready to play her part, and as they say, the show must go on!
Merry Christmas my dears!!
A Good Yarn
I've been using a very limited palette for these silhouettes, and having great fun with the pops of red! I must admit, I love a good yarn... Can't wait to put all of these together!
Red, White & Black
Another sneak peek: Once again, the love of a true furry friend! So glad I have my sweet golden retriever to keep me company, and she just loves to have an arm wrapped 'round her!
Thankful & Blessed
I've been especially pondering God's goodness today: In my life I have always been so thankful for all of my Heavenly Father's blessings and for the gifts He has given me. I am just so overwhelmed by the goodness He has shown to me for blessing me to pursue illustration and be represented by my wonderful agency. I have been so blessed to have the love and support of my Mom, Dad, and brother during the whole process. I love my family to the moon and back!
Thank you for letting me be a bit sentimental today. There are so many adventures ahead and I can not wait to discover them!!
Deer & Mushrooms
This is part of something very fun that I have been working on!
Hard-Boiled Eggs & Soft Blooms
Boiled eggs emerging from a metal pot, and sinking down into lovely hues of tinted vinegar. It is Easter-Eve for certain.
Oh, how I love this time of year! Every time spring rolls around, I fall that much more in love with it. I fashioned these two painted shells after old delftware and blue china patterns of yesteryear. And of course, I come by my love of daffodils naturally, they were my Grandmother's favorite flower. I can absolutely see why.
Happy Easter, my little rabbits!
Maggie Among the Magnolias
Maggie Among the Magnolias 8"x10" watercolor & ink on paper
A fairy and a robin make for the best of friends. These two are singing the sweet first notes of spring.
February 10th was when I spotted the first robin in my backyard. And now, we're having a taste of spring here in Michigan this week, and I must say that I a little bird told me it was coming.
Picnics in Winter
The beginnings of things.
Also, my thoughts are officially on spring now thanks to this fun little picnic taking place.

Visions of Sugar Plums: Jackalope #1 (ornament)
Visions of Sugar Plums: Jackalope #1 gouache and acrylic on glass
What is more wonderful than a bit of make-believe and magic at Christmas time! And so I couldn't help but paint a Jackalope, which is just a beautiful and magical creature. I am painting three original Christmas ornaments and calling the set Visions of Sugar Plums.
- This second one I am offering is a woodland Jackalope, a mythical creature, painted in Scandinavian color palette, acrylic and gouache on a glass globe. Each ornament comes ready to hang from your special tree with a gold ribbon, and arrives with it's own cardboard box for storing and display. Each ornament is hand-painted by me, Gretchen Ellen Powers, and is completely unique and one of a kind. I am asking only $100 a piece for them + S & H. Available for a limited time only in my shop.
These would be the perfect decoration to help you trim your tree, and deck your merry halls!

High Tea
High Tea 5"x7" watercolor on paper
I have had quite a few tea parties, and enjoy a ritual of tea every day - often more than twice! - and so I know precisely how my little mouse friend feels. Here is her miniature accompanying story:
Celia Mousekins has a great fondness for two treats, sugar cubes and Earl Grey tea. Here she has combined the two pleasures in one, and gives it a stir, as she enjoys a mouse sized version of High Tea.
