In honor of what would have been Maurice Sendak’s 91st birthday, I decided to interpret his beloved classic story, Where the Wild Things Are…

“Batter Up”
I probably would watch sports if it looked anything like this…
So Many Choices watercolor on paper
Sometimes half the fun is the proces. And Halloween is the perfect excuse to dress-up… 2, 3, 4, even 5 times!
Here Comes the Circus watercolor on paper
The best kind of magic is the type we make ourselves.
"The Afternoon Safari"
A girl and her dog spending the afternoon in a safari hunt. With a little imagination, the houseplants become a jungle, and the family cat has no idea what he's in for.
Treats for Tricks watercolor on paper
Busy about new circus tricks, who needs a "Flea Circus" when you have your own beetle?
Fun & Games watercolor on paper
Croquet is so much more fun when a hedgehog friends decides to come along for the ride and join in. It is all fun and games afterall.
The Valentine, watercolor on paper
These two young sweethearts are holding hands, the boy in snowshoes is steading the girl on her wobbly ice-skates. She's presenting him with her homemade valentine, and he has a little bouquet of flowers behind his back to surprise her with.
Wishing you a LOVE-ly and Happy Valentine's Day!
The Nutcracker watercolor on paper
You may be familiar with the magical story of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet. In my version however they are happily dancing together- and the Rat King certainly appears a bit more mouse-y.
The Christmas Pageant watercolor on paper
The cast of the children's Christmas Pageant has two unlikely roles who are the best of friends. Peace on earth truly resides over all at this magical time of year! This is when the lion and the lamb truly come together.
Are you beginning to feel the Christmas spirit yet? It has taken me over, from the tips of my toes to the top of my head!
A glimpse of something that may be Halloween related, hope you are all smiles, like this toothy pumpkin, enjoying the fun of dressing up and acting a bit silly! Happy Halloween!!
I just adore days like this, that's probably why autumn has a special place in my heart! Warm cups of tea, pumpkins, and the smell of cinnamon. And all the while, the sound of a windy day is an enchantment to me!
A lovely little note: That bouquet that keeps popping up in my recent posts are my Mama's that she has had dried for years (a special thanks to her for letting me carefully borrow them!) I think I love a good dried flower more than the real thing sometimes!
A sneak peek, where the painting is actually peeking back. I love how she's glancing through the baby's breath...
Part Three of "Showing Paintings Without *Actually* Showing Them". Stay tuned for the subsequent sequels!
The Animal's Picnic 12"x12" watercolor on paper
The original for this happy little excursion is now up in my shop!
Another original painting in this shop update coming soon.
The Animal's Picnic 12"x12" watercolor on paper
Summer get-togethers are the funnest, and this bunch has gathered 'round a mushroom cap for a feast of corn and ripe watermelon. Good things are always made that much better with friends. I hope your summer looks something like this (but if you are keeping company with a sweet little otter dressed in retro attire, please let me know, I'd love to tag along!)
Happy Summer!
Maggie Among the Magnolias 8"x10" watercolor & ink on paper
A fairy and a robin make for the best of friends. These two are singing the sweet first notes of spring.
February 10th was when I spotted the first robin in my backyard. And now, we're having a taste of spring here in Michigan this week, and I must say that I a little bird told me it was coming.
Building Friendships 12"x12" watercolor & ink on paper
One of my favorite things about the winter is being able to sculpt a jolly being from all that snow. These clever kids have thought of all of the right ingredients for making a new friend and bring him to life! (Sequel illustration to follow shortly)
Sketching in the wee hours by lamplight. Fueled by cup after cup of Tetley tea.
Making Friends with Furry Friends: Hello 9"x11" watercolor and ink on paper
Greetings. Hello. Salutations. How-do-you-do. Bonjour. Ciao. Howdy. No matter how you say it, there's nothing quite as nice as saying hello to a friend.
These two are becoming acquainted over a fence post; and I'm sure that it won't be long before the little girl will be sharing some goodies from her basket with her new pals.
