It's hard to stay afloat after so many snacks and tropical punches (he's Bearly Floating as it is!) But this bear is doing it, and making a big splash into the holiday weekend!
He hopes you're enjoying the last bits of summer too!
An Afternoon of Hygge 8"x10" watercolor on paper
A simple practice of cozy. There's nothing like the comfort that can be found in the company of good friends and a warm bowl of hot soup.
A Definition: Hygge: (noun) A Danish word for a quality of coziness (=feeling warm, comfortable, and safe) that comes from doing simple things such as lighting candles, baking, or spending time at home with your family: You can read more about Hygge here, through this fun article courtesy of The New Yorker.
Come to find out, I've been practicing this lifestyle since I was a child, I just never knew the word for it before now.
Something I have been busy working on lately that has a lot to do with coziness. Finished watercolor to follow.
A few years ago Emmeline Wines and I did a collaboration on the design & illustration of their 2013 Syrah here. I was so honored and thrilled when they approached me last year to return and illustrate their newest release.
Here are the labels I illustrated and the finished product we created together for their Pinot Gris vintage 2016.
Thank you Narelle & Tim, it is always a perfect pleasure to work with you!
Bear Mitten 7"x7" watercolor on paper
Our bear friend has quite a large sweet tooth, he's a gentle giant and will never turn down an opportunity for candy. He's one of my favorites from my series Smitten with the Mitten.
Confession: I'm a bit jealous of his red mittens, and I'll admit that I wish they were real so I could snatch up a pair for myself! I can picture a jolly elf sporting a set of those mittens as well.
Happy to announce that I am now being represented by Tugeau2 Children's Illustration Agency!! Excited for the many adventures ahead of me in the enchanting world of children's publishing!
Here's a new illustration for the occasion!
Grandpa Bear's Chair 13"x10" watercolor & gouache on paper
Grandpa Bear and his fox granddaughter love to read in his comfy chair. They have a good source of reading material beside them to keep them entertained for hours of book loving fun.
This is the finished label illustration for Emmeline Wines, an Australian wine company that I have had the honor of working with for their past two vintages. Thank you for letting me join the adventure again Narelle & Tim!
The characters in my new wine label commission beginning to take form.
These two have a great deal in common and reading is an obvious favorite pastime. Note the impressive stack of books beside their comfy chair.
This photo was taken a bit ago now, and the actual painting will be posted in a day or two. Until then!
A fox and a bear.
The beginnings of something that has two of my favorite animals.
I had a pleasant surprise this morning as I clicked on my newest Etsy Newsletter to read, I was then greeted by an illustration of my own! My pencil- riding-goggle-wearing aviator girl & her adventurous bear accompanied their 4 Ways to Finance Your Business's Growth article. You can read it here!
Thank you to the lovely Taylor Combs (a writer and editor for Etsy's Seller Handbook) for selecting my illustration Head in the Clouds to be showcased with her helpful & inspiring article.
(Also, I have prints available of this piece in my shop on Etsy, of course!)
Goldilocks and the Three Bears : Someone's Been Eating My Porridge 11"x14" Watercolor & gouache on paper
The second installment in my version of the classic fairy tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. My take once again depicts a different view of the curious girl and the Bear family, where they are the best of friends and she has been invited over for breakfast. Goldilocks and Papa Bear are sitting down for a steaming bowl of hot porridge. Mama Bear and Baby Bear had better hurry up and join them, before it's all gone!
